I have a clutch of 10 eggs set to hatch on Sunday. I feed my current flock fermented feed every morning for “breakfast” and was going to start a batch for my hatchlings in the next couple of days. My question is, will chicks reap the same benefits as my flock from fermenting feed? I bought unmedicated chick starter feed because I didn’t know if the fermenting process would work with medicated feed.

Yes, it's great for your chicks. I give my flock a fermented meal each day too and my chicks got the same from day 1. I didn't use medicated feed either. If you can give them a plug of grass with soil or a dust bath using soil from your yard it helps them develop a natural immunity to germs in their environment, including coccidia.

I tried to feed FF to my last batch of chicks and they would not eat it when they were less than two weeks old. After that they took to it well. So don’t get discouraged if they don’t eat it right away just keep introducing it to them until they decide they like it. And your right, your not supposed to ferment medicated feed from what I’ve read.

I FEED FERMENTED WHOLE OATS FROM DAY1 IN THE AFTERNOON AND NUTRENA CHICK STARTER AT ALL TIMES. THEY LOVE THE OATS AND I NEVER HAVE COCCI. THEY GROW BETTER FEATHERS ON THE OATS AS WELL. ALL MY CHICKENS GET FERMENTED OATS AND THEY ARE VERY HEALTHY.
