I have a hen who has been about 2 years with me,never been broody(the only one that has never been),I put a cardboard box with some eggs that I marked to try to encourage them to get broody,I change the eggs every few days to stop them from going bad,3 days ago I saw a hen sitting on the eggs for most of the day but she stood up when it was getting dark,is she playing with me?in the morning when I put the feeder and water she stands up and gets some food, the whole time making cluck noises and hissing, any small movement close to her and she goes ballistic, attacking and harassing the other hens, today she even went after my shoe, later at the day around 7 pm when I usually let them out to free range for an hour, she stands up and acts normal except for the cluck noises she has been making for the past days,at dark she goes to the roost and not to the nest will she go broody or is this how some hens go broody?

I have a hen that does this, it's kinda like she has 2/3rds of the instructions on how to sit on eggs
It is possible that it is early stages of broodiness, as far as I can see only time will tell.

She finally decided to stay whew, after one week of standing that is,hopefully she doesn't give up,she has never been broody but for now she looks like she will make a fine mom, always checks the nest from front and back for any differences after she takes her daily 10 minute break.
