I bought Killz primer as I saw recommended on this site, and now realize I bought the wrong one. It's for interior use. Is it okay to use inside the coop? I also have some kitchen/bathroom interior semi-gloss paint I was thinking I might use inside as well. I can't return the Killz because it's been sitting outside and the lid has rusted a bit already. I'm in the Pacific North West if that makes a difference. We do get a lot of rain. Our coop is shingled and we used exterior grade plywood for the walls, but we used OSB for the nest boxes and poop board inside.

For outside, I have some leftover Zinsser 1-2-3 which says it's for exterior use, but a search here came up with no mention of anyone using it for a coop. Is there any reason it wouldn't work just as well? I'll use exterior paints for the outside as well.

Sure...I used interior semi gloss paint on my interior and it's holding up fine and is easy to clean when they poop on the walls which is inevitable.

The gloss helps in cleaning the chicken dust off too.

I painted the outside with your regular exterior house paint. Good luck.

It's okay.

It may not last as long tho depending on your style of coop management and your coop design and so forth.

If you expect significant exposure to water (lots of raining-in, or you'd be hosing the coop out regularly, or that kind of thing) or all-day sunlight (not an issue in most coops tho) it might be long-term smart to exchange the stuff for exterior type.

If you expect the coop to remain quite dry, you should be fine with whatcha got

Good luck, have fun,

Because I got a, 5 gallon bucket of interior paint, I am using it on my coop interior. I would have personally preferred exterior, but hey, can't argue with free! But, you do live in a very rainy area. I think it would be best to use an exterior paint because of the moisture. Even if the coop has zero leaks, wet chickens coming in from the run can add a lot of moisture.

Thanks all. I feel better about it now. Maybe I'll use the interior primer but stick with exterior paints for the inside. I can get oops paints but not primers.
