That's great! I wonder if you used a good quality outdoor paint if you could just paint it instead of adding shingles? Especially considering the angle of the roof. You're right the shingles would make it impossible to lift. My DH's parents had painted particle board as siding on their cabin for years before finally putting up vinyl.

Thanks for all the nice comments, everybody! My husband is leaning towards either painting the roof with a really heavy-duty marine-type paint or getting a piece of weather-proof outdoor canvas from an awning place. I'll post pics when we finish it. Sometime in the next decade.
