Is it a good idea to introduce young cochin hens to eggs early on if we want them to be brooders? if not, I've made a HUGE mistake! My new Cochins are going to hopefully be mothers and A father very soon

i've started showing them some of the other chickens eggs and they always take it as food.

they try to get their beaks around it however they can but end up giving up and walking away. I want my hens to become mothers one day and I dont want them to eat the eggs they lay. Have I made a good choice by introducing them early on?

I would say no, but I am no authority. I try to remove eggs and keep them away from them asap because I don't want curiousity to turn my babies into egg eaters. A hen will go broody when they go broody. I don't think we can do much to encourage it. Give her eggs then, and she won't eat them. She'll set them.

No, showing them eggs won't make them motherly. They'll be good mothers or they won't be and I don't think there's any way to influence them.
