Is it cruel to rip a domestic duck from the wild into captivity?

My family thinks it’s a good lesson that we haven’t been able to catch the duck I rescued from being dumped. They think it’s cruel of me to take it from the wild into my home, but I wanted to give them a better life. They see it like taking a wolf from the forest into a zoo but I see it as taking a kid from the streets into a home.

I don’t know, it’s my fault she got away with her leash on her. But I just feel bad now, I’m interested in other’s opinions

What kind of duck is this? What happened that you had to rescue it? I can see why they might think that, but letting them go may not always be the best for the duck... If the duck needed help, then I don't see why you can't keep him where it's safer, with you. That is, unless the duck is legally a wild duck.

It’s the kiki Campbell mix from previous posts. I recused it because 1, I know she can’t fly from other predators but also because her home was a boat ramp.
I thought it’d be better to have a free run, coop and special delta area for my ducks.
But 2, bc it’s illegal for domestic ducks to be let into the wild

Honestly I accept full responsibility but I don’t know if I should just let her go or keep her

In that case, the duck should absolutely not be in the wild. It's illegal to let domestic ducks into the wild, they can't get away from predators easily, and they're less likely to be getting the proper nutrients they should be getting. I definitely think you should keep her. She will live a much safer and happier life that way. As long as you can provide her with the proper care she needs, then you should keep her.

Maybe I’ll just tame her n give her to someone else because of my family’s opinions
Thank you
