Is it easier to join two coveys that already live side by side?

Or in my case - one on top of the other. I have two mixed coveys of 4hens x 1roo and want to join them to dedicate one floor to tuxedos. I've heard of the put up a divider /see but can't touch method, anyone done this with coveys that already live so close together?

Also, joining the coveys. Keep 1 roo or 2 for 8 hens?

As long as you have the floor space, I’d keep the extra boy. I don’t know if the see but no touch method works with quail, usually the change everything and redecorate/new cage in the dark method is best, then just watch for issues, along with hidey holes and plenty of water/feed access.
