Just curious, Im new to raising chickens. In fact never had a farm fresh egg before. I guess i am doing everything right learning as I go. We have bonded. They are generous with their eggs, as I share them with others. Anywho, not sure if it is just in head, or I dont know. I used an egg the other day and when i broke it with the wisk, it released this gassy odor . The egg was only about a day old. What was that

Hmm. Can they lay them like that? It kinda reminded me of the coop stench.

Not normal at all. What are you feeding them? Did it look normal?

Have you supplemented them with any strong smelling scraps ? Fish ?

I feed them a 5 grain scratch being so cold here daily. I did just pick up a new bag of layer feed yesterday. But this egg was from a few days ago and has been on my mind. I have had them on an organic feed along with a dose of apple cider vinegar added to the water. But yesterday i had this strong pull and urge to buy this bag of Purina with omega 3. I havent feed them yet with the new feed. Along with the normal fruit and scratch

Welcome to Backyard Chickens glad you joined us.. did you think to take a photo ? maybe you could tell us what you feed them

I didnt take a photo but it looked totally normal. Had a soft orange yellow tint. It was normal to me. Ive cracked open a few more havent had smelt it yet again.
