Is it Maran or Marans???????

This bothers me..........is it Maran or Marans? If I were to say I have a ________ chicken, would Maran or Marans go in to the blank???

The breed originates from the township of Marans in France. So the name refers to the origin which always has an S on the end. The s does not have anything to do with it being plural.

So even if you are talking about one single hen you would say that you have a Marans.

It is actually French Poule de Marans in France.
But over here we call it what ever you want.
