Well the entire ad doesn't fit together.

Commercial eggeries get their pullet chicks for about $0.35 each, so if he is ordering commercial hatchery extras, the price would be reasonable. In fact the roos he would probably be getting for next to nothing (normally they would be turned into dog food). So he is making a reasonable profit for retailing these chicks.

However, it doesn't make economic sense for people to grow out Leghorn cockerels for meat. Not unless you have a few acres of otherwise useless range for them to cut down on the feed bill and don't mind all the work of butchering them out for so little meat.

However, the birds in the picture are from a show strain, not a commercial strain. Commercial birds are always ugly looking as they have been bred to put their energy into laying not into nice bodies and feathers.

I agree, unless he's getting commercial stock, the price is a little low.

People put up adds at our feed mill at times, looking to partner with others to meet the 25 bird minimum, or to get discounts at 100, and the prices are not that low.

Edit: Yes, that's where the pics are from, I thought they looked familiar.

Cackle's price is higher than he is asking on the pullets, but lower on the roos for orders of 100.

Maybe it's a legit offer and he's getting a good end of season price, maybe not. Wouldn't hurt if you don't pay up front, unless you get stuffed with a bunch of roos when you buy pullets through him.

Personally, I don't buy anything from people who can't understand how and when to use a caps lock key.
