Is it medicated?

Last week a feed store told me their starter feed[chickens] was medicated,but they were out.I picked some up today .it was loaded in my car while I paid.At home I noticed it doesn't say medicated,but has percentages and ingredients on the label.How can I tell if it's medicated? The store is closed tomorrow and my first chicks are due next week.

It should say medicated on the front or have the name of the antibiotic on the label/tag.

It should have the ingredients listed on the white tag located at the bottom of the bag.
What brand is it? Maybe someone will recognize it.
You could also look it up online, see if the company has a website and if they do they will have all their products listed and the ingredients in each one.

I am not sure what the antibiotics should be on the label besides amporillum or amprollium( I know I am not spelling that right, I have never used it but you can get the gist of what to look for) I have never used medicated feed for my chickens before.
You still have time to exchange the feed though if your chicks aren't due for another week.

The first thing on the tag will say:


Active Ingredients

 

[Lazy J Farms Feed & Hay]

The tag should be organized in this manner:

NAME OF FEED

PURPOSE STATEMENT

Medication levels

If the Medication is not conspicuously stated on the tag then the feed contains no medication.

There are some meat chicks being raised on my property and they are not on medicated feed.I was just trying to be responsible.

I don't think that feed store carries another kind,so I would have to find another source.

The starter I use is non-medicated. I try not to use antibiotics unless I have to, but I do keep some tetramyacin crumbles and powder just in case I need it.

Its a personal choice whether people want to use medicated or not.
I don't like to give antibiotics to something that is not sick. My feeling is if they did get sick then I could give them an antibiotic and deal with it then.
Some people worry that giving antibiotics from day one builds up a resistance to antibiotics for when they really need them.

I am doing my best to raise them in an all natural way, I feed organic feed etc. so for me it makes sense.

Other people give medicated in the hopes that they will avoid sickness but thats not always a guarantee either, someone was just on here not long ago that said they had been given medicated feed since day one and the chickens still got cocci.
A few more people chimed in that the same thing had happend to them.
So while it may work alot of the time it does not work all of the time.
