Is it normal for chickens to molt during the late fall?

My hens have been molting or ( losing feathers ) all together . Is this normal, my best guess is they are getting hardier feathers for winter

Yup. Mine, too.

Yep, it's how they're designed. Grow those new feathers in for keeping warm in the winter. Plus, chicks usually aren't raised in the winter, so energy can go toward molting and re-growing feathers , not egg production or brooding babies.
