I got my first egg today not sure who layed it, but my coop has 2 RIRs 1 RSL 1 RIR roo and the egg was brown with tiny white spots, is this normal? They are 23 weeks old they eat laying crumbles and some oyster shell, just little bit of scratch i cut them back on scratch & bread they free range about 2 hrs during the day. They have no health problems i clean coop out once a week, and supply fresh sand. I feed them every day and give them fresh water to. Thanks

That is absolutely normal. Some of my chickens will lay that egg everyday others have a nice smooth look to them.

I'm so glad you started this thread, Chickadee!
One of my Buff Orpington's laid her first egg for us today! We're not sure if it was her first EVER egg, or even how old she is. She joined our flock 5 weeks ago and brought leg mites and Coccidia with her. (Yes, we learned our lesson about bio-security.) Now that she's happy and healthy, she finally laid an egg! So here's my question, is it normal for this BO egg to be medium brown with dark brown spots? Our other BO lays big, buff-colored eggs. Thanks for your help!
