Is it normal for one egg to take longer to hatch?

3 eggs under broody hen. First one hatched 3 days ago (I posted) the next on the next morning. The last one hasn't hatched yet. It was laid 9/24 same as the other two. Momma is still laying on it and keeping eye on her chicks (they are closed off from flock). I think I'm just being impatient, is this normal?

Sometimes certain chicks do take a little longer to hatch, but I would candle to verify the egg is actually fertile, and even if it was, it’s possible the embryo died at some point during development. 3 days is a big difference for eggs that were all laid and started incubation at the same time.

Thanks for the info. I've not had luck candling. I just have my phone or regular flashlight and only tried it a couple times. Ill do some research and try it.

Is it a light or dark colored eggshell? I’ve been able to see into most colors of eggshell with my phone flashlight except for dark browns. If you can get a photo of you candling it in a dark room we may be able to tell you what you’re looking at.

This is what you would see if it were hatch day:

Thank you both. It was a light colored egg and after reading some candling threads on here it was easy to see it was an early quitter I believe its called. No chick. But she got two out of three and they are doing great so I'm happy. Thanks again @Willow2253 and @Kiki
