Is it ok to give three week old chicks treats?

I just fed a hand full of raw instant oatmeal to my three week old bard rocks, they went bizerk and acted like a pack of wolves on their prey. They really enjoyed this treat however, I was wondering if this treat be used sparingly as there is also sugar within the instant oatmeal (brown sugar and maple).

I'm not quite experienced with treats but we kind of 'explored' treats when our chicks were at about that age (They are about 2 months old now) and we didn't run into any problems. We tried grapes (ours weren't hip on them then but they are now) and then we tried lettuce and they liked it but they weren't as excited to eat it as they were with watermelon. I've never tried instant oatmeal but as you said it does have sugar so I would give it to them sparingly.

I don't know if grasshoppers count as treats, but we fed our week old chicks several of them and they loved it. They are perfectly fine.

I have been taking them outside on a supervised outings on the lawn, they love to pick the mosquitos off at ankle level of anybody that dares to wear shorts here. They seem to enjoy the chance to stretch their legs and wings while exploring the property.

Feed sugary treats sparingly as they cause loose bowels :/ but they still are good rewards and they are tasty. We are currently feeding our chicks smashed and alive grasshoppers and they love them.
