Is it OK to let mother hen RULE the roost?

New at this...7 chicks hatched on August 1 and 9 more expected in about 1.5 weeks. Chicks and mom have decided to setup house in the dog house - Yes they are free ranging it...Mom appears to be doing a great job teaching, feeding and protecting. However, not sure if we should be more involved.

If Mama and chicks are in a place that they are protected from predators and have plenty of food and water, I'd let her continue to raise them. Naturally hens can do a better job than us humans can.

I agree with gritsar. While I keep mine in a more controlled environment, my neighbors allow theirs to run wild. Mommas and babies all do just fine.
 
I appreciate the feed-back...confirmation is often better than instructions. Hope to post pictures soon - as soon as they stay still..LOL!
