they have had a light on in there coop and know they seem to be laying away from it at night some roosting and others laying in different areas of the coop together. i guess they will have to get used to it being dark until morning. so any responses on what the best thing to do would be great. thanks.

its been mid 40s to mid 50s at night.also.

Are they fully or mostly fully feathered? I don't think you should have too much of a problem taking away the heat. I have 5 and 6 week old chicks who are already off of heat and doing just fine. It isn't that much warmer here in NY then by you it gets down into the 50's and 60's here at night too.

yes they look close to fully feathered. all iv been using for a light source was a regular light bulb all along. started with a 100 watt bulb . switched to a 65 watt bulb 2 weeks ago.

Give them a little night light if you pull the plug on the heat lamp. They cant see a thing in the dark and will be terrified.

i have 4 week olds and 7 week olds without the heat in the coop now. its been warm enough, havent lost anyone yet. knock on wood, should just be quiet about it. its always nerve wracking to go to the next step but it will be fine, i think

i here ya probably stick a night light in there and gradually wean them off the light . the dont look like there cold. its just there used to the light .ugghh

i had a single chick, when he hit 2 weeks i took the heat lamp away and stuck him outside. daytime temps 90-100, night 75-90. he's 4 weeks old now.
