is it ok to try to get a hen to go broody in the winter

i want to get my hen to go broody but it is getting cold out side and i dont know if the chicks will make it i have a heating lamp if they need it
 
It's unlikely that you will get a broody hen in the winter. Broodiness is caused by hormones, and those hormones are triggered by the longer daylight hours in spring and summer. Depending on how cold it gets where you live, it could be very hard to keep young chickens warm enough after they are too big to huddle under the hen for warmth.
