Well, my mama buff was sitting on 17 eggs. But then today I noticed she only had 16. I look all around for the egg and find it in her pool. It was bad and had exploded. Is there any way that she had picked up from the past ( she has had an egg explode in the nest) and taken the egg away from her nest to the pool?

How could it have gotten in there? Did she carry it out?! She is a petite duck, weighing maybe a couple pounds ( not good at math ) but is only half the size of her mallard mate.

they stick them under their wing and take them whever they want

^^ I am almost positive he's joking. Ducks dont do that lol!!!!

Can your goats still get to her? If so, i could see a goat picking one up in it's mouth and dropping it in teh pool when they realized it tasted horrid. LOL!

But nope birds can't move their eggs anywehre other than rolling it under themselves.

Well dont I feel stupid, lol, i thought he was serious!

I doubt the goats would, they can get to her, yes, but the pool is on the other side of the pen, and my leader( who does into the duck hut) is tied up becuase she jumps the fence.so she cant reach the pool

This is a very interesting case.

wait a minute you completely make a valid point!!!

Hens that take an egg to eat it, (once busted opened) will run aroudn with their prize in their beaks to get awayf rom the other hens taht want to eat the egg. But a whole egg NOT broken, theres no way a chicken or any other bird could do that (well a stork can steal other birds eggs whole).

So yes goat_walker, actually it IS possible she (the mama duck) picked up the broken busted egg.

Funny she put it into the water...i guess this case is solved!

But no under the wing and mama duck could not do that with a whole (uncracked) egg. But a busted one sure!

The egg wasnt exactly busted like wide open, but it did have a nice hole in it the size of a quarter she could have put her beak into...hmmm... this is very interesting

I bet that's what she did, she probably knew it was bad maybe busted it opened just enough to pick it up and "washed" it Haha! that is really interesting and kinda cute!

There, now you know that one was bad! Haha

Well Im hoping that if thi is the case, that i wont have any more bad ones in the nest:)
