Is it safe for chickens .....?

Is it safe for chickens to eat their fermented food off of maple log segments?

I just cut down a maple tree and some of the log segments have been cut into disks about 10" across and about 8" high I thought I would put them in my chicken run in a spot that they would not get pooped on and let them feed off of them without putting the food in a bowl.
