Is it safe to eat a sick quail?

I bought several quail this week, and at least one turned out to be sick, sitting inactive with eyes closed and feathers ruffed out most of the time. I culled and gutted her, am contemplating cooking the carcass, and I am wondering if it is safe to eat a quail that was sick. Does anyone know?

I personally would not eat a sick bird.Now if its one thats been picked on by the dominate bird they will just stand in corner with feathers ruffed and doing everything possible to not make eye contact with the king or queeen of the coop and take another wupping,I will eat that one ..cva34

its a tough decision sick or beat up.Mine that get that way ,I put by itself if he's sick he will stay pitiful, if he's beat up it will be crowing ar cackling in a little while acting like nothin ever happned

Thank you, that is helpful. This one did stay sick looking after being transferred to another cage by itself, so I guess I shouldn't eat it. NOw there is another one too that is acting sleepy, not active as the others, but just sitting and lying around. Maybe a spreading illness among the flock....
