Our two naked necks lay long oval shaped eggs... Will the shape of the egg affect the developing chick inside? Oh and how do naked neck genetics work? The rooster I have is not a naked neck, if I put in 7 eggs (into my future incubator) that are from my turkens how many will come out with naked necks?

the shape of eggs have nothing to do with development of the chickens, so go ahead and try . Not sure what kind of rooster, but have fun and see how they turned out ! My chickens are half silkies and austrolorpe, they are Beautiful ! all black with feather feet and little "hat" and has a gold color around their neck like a necklace!

Think about this - if the shape of the egg affected the chick, there would be no naked necks.

I have 2 naked necked hens and they are in the coop with the Easter Egger roo, each egg has a 50/50 shot of having a naked neck if the hen has a bow tie (tuft of feathers about 1/4 up the neck) and about a 70% chance if the hen is a complete naked neck. Mine are bow ties, and I get on average 40-50% to hatch out with naked necks. HTH.

Thank you for the responses. Do you get oval shaped eggs too? Yes that's a good point bobbi-j...

Mine have bow ties too. Good to know that I will atleast get 1 or 2 maybe.

Mine lay more oval shaped eggs, one a tinted pink and one a medium brown. But I have hatched speckled sussex eggs that were pointy on both ends and did fine, I have a hen in the coop I hatched that proves it ;)

Oooooh!!!! @ thebanthams, Can I see pictures?!?! I don't think the shape of the egg matters, but I could be wrong, I'm kind of new to this...
