a little over a week ago we had a fox show up and kill 7 of our 14 chickens. They were outside in their run and it happened past 7 in the morning which was a surprise. We had chickens for 3 years with no problems like this and it really was hard to deal with. The original run wasnt covered and basically just a normal fence with string overhead. For over 3 years that worked, but after what happened we built another run, brought it closer to our house, and probably made it predator proof. We put hardware cloth up part of the sides and around a foot underground too making it an L shape in the ground. We then used other fencing for higher up and we used wire and twisted it to hold everything together. We also used zip ties. I'm going to send a lot of pictures and if there is any problems with it please let me know, we couldn't do anything about the fox and we know its come back because we've seen poop a few times. Were also leaving in a few days for vacation and leaving our neighbor to watch them so I want to make sure everything is good before we head off. Thanks

Sorry for the loss. New setup looks pretty secure to me. For long-term, I'd plan to switch out the plastic zip ties and the small twist tie material, with something else that will last as long as the fencing materials -- stainless zip ties, galvanized or aluminum wire, etc. Other than that I think the fox will have a hard time getting dinner

Ok sounds good, we are twisting wire around some of it and using the zip ties for up higher but I'll probably in the future use the metal wires around everything, but if it's good in the short term then it will work for now. Thanks for the input
