Is it too late in the year to start over?

I hope not because I'm getting some chicks in about six days. They should be fine if they are kept cool, consider keeping them inside.

It's never too late in the year! But, if you'd like fresh eggs this winter, you'll need to consider purchasing older birds (pullets won't lay until generally 20wks-28wks old - and they may not start laying until the longer daytime light of spring if you hit that time in mid-winter).

This forum has an auction section - take a look over there to see what's for sale - and there's also a section "Where are you" for each state - you could see if someone near you has additional chicks. Those would be two places to start....but I suggest you first get a very nice run constructed and predator proof. That dog will be back.
