I am being cheap and not wanting to purchase a
APA Standard of Perfection book to answer my question.

Is leg color a determining factor in knowing if you have a
exhibition quality chicken?

If so, would yellow legs be the least desirable in Large Fowl?

It depends on the breed, I know that much. Take Cubalaya (see avatar picture), their breed standard is to have white legs. Plymouth Rocks are supposed to have yellow legs. Ameraucana need to have slate colored legs.

Tim;

The quality of the chicken is more important to me than
showing (I'm not much of a shower)

but, Orpingtons
are the breed..

Seems to me that the color of legs IS a factor for a breed and
is a factor within a breed when it comes to the color of the body
of the chicken.

Example... Black\\Blue Orp would have a dark color
Buff Orp would have flesh\\white
White Orp would have flesh\\white
Splash Orp would have ?
Lav Orp would have ?

According to the standard of perfection, yellow legs in orps are a disqualification. So, personally, whether I was showing chickens or not (which Im not) I would still want to breed within the standards, which would mean no yellow legs in orps.

Blue: leaden blue
black: dark slate in mature birds, bottoms of toes pinkesh white.
Your correct on the buffs and whites
Splash: there is no standard, but I have been breeding mine with the light blue legs and dark brown eyes.
Lavender: light to dark blue and dark brown eyes. Atleast this is what I belive the standard will be from other standards.

Thanks everyone

Looks like I will need to "pluck" (pun intened) a couple of
my Buff's out my Buff stock, but other than that, I can

the rest of the day because all the rest, including my two
week old White Orp chicks have the correct leg color.
