Is mulch ok for run?

so I'm in the process of building a coop. The area designated has a ton of mulch. I would hate to try to remove it. It's 2 years old at this point. It's natural non painted mulch. Is it ok for me leave it in?

as long as it's not the painted as you say, then yes leave it in there. They'll enjoy having it to dig in!
