My 1 1/2 to 2 week old chicks are pretty active when awake and feeding, but like to huddle when napping. I read up on signs if your brooder is the right temp, but this seems in between. Is this OK?
If they're not in the hottest spot, and not in the coolest spot, then they're probably fine. (Move your own hand around, or check with a thermometer--sometimes a draft can make the warm/cool spots be in different places than you expect.)
They always huddle at night. If in doubt, it is probably warm enough.
If they aren't huddling and constantly peeping, they're OK.
The entire brooder shouldn't be hot. There needs to be a warm spot and lots of cool space.
