Hi,
I just had a chick hatch with something attached to it’s stomach/bum area. I’m nots sure what it is and it’s my first time incubating and hatching. I’m just wondering what it is and if I need to do anything to help or it’ll just dry out and drop off on it’s own and it’ll be fine.
Thanks!
Beth

That's the little bit of waste that accumulates in the egg. Usually it gets left behind in the egg but sometimes it stays attached to the chick. With a sterilised pair of scissors you can snip just the blob off as far from the chick as possible. The thread may bleed slightly so just pinch that for a moment. Otherwise it should dry up and drop off, but other chicks can pick at it and if it gets caught on something it can cause the chicks innards to be pulled out.

Hi.
Another question. This chick just hatched and it’s even more scary. Lots of stuff on the shell. Is there anything I can do? Is it too early?

Unless there's something in the navel area that's protruding that I can't see in the pics, the gunk in the egg attached to the chick looks like it's just the precursor to the "blob" that was on the previous chick. Sometimes, a chick can end up dragging a shell around after hatch if the gunk doesn't release - if it doesn't cleanly detach fairly soon, I'd follow @JaeG's advice to carefully detach it to avoid injury to the area. I also like to put a dab of triple antibiotic cream (without pain relief)on the umbilicus - as insurance - if it's not completely healed.

Congrats on your chicks!

Thanks for the help! I had 5 fertile eggs and all 5 have hatched! (I have no idea what gender or breed they are so I’m sure I’ll be on the breed/gender forum soon to see if anyone can help!) Thanks again though and here’s a pic of my babies:
