Hey all. My mallard duck hatched out 6 ducklings a couple months ago and I recently let them join the rest of the flock. A couple weeks after I added them in my mallard hen stopped laying. I know mallards are seasonal layers but in the past she had been laying around this time. Aside from not laying she seems healthy, eating, drinking, doing zoomies. I just want to air on the side of caution to ensure her safety. Her bum is also much closer to the ground than normal, I'm not sure if that's a sign that's she eggbound, as I have never had an eggbound duck. All advice is appreciated!

If she was egg bound for that long she would be dead. Their laying habits change each year as they grow older. Not to mention since mallards are seasonal layers like you said and she was allowed to brood eggs biologically speaking she no longer needs to lay eggs so to speak for this season because she has successfully reproduced.

Thank you! I wanted to make sure she was ok as her bum was looking rather funky.
