my girl didn’t lay an egg today, and is acting completely fine. but someone on our instagram who has ducks said she will die???

they said not to let our drake next to her or the egg will break inside her (how do i tell if she even has an egg inside her right now?) and she will die?

i thought it was normal for ducks to miss a few days of egg laying every once in a while, especially since she only started laying a week ago.

She won't die. I hate when people spread rumors that are false. She'll be fine. Ducks have a reproductive cycle similar to chickens, where they lay for a period of time, and then take a day or two off. Don't worry. As long as she's acting ok don't fret. Let your drake with her so she doesn't get lonely, that's when birds can get depressed. Taking them away from their flock

I would probably not take comments on instagram seriously. My ducks don’t always lay every day

thank you. i also saw her eat half a (large) shell of a chicken egg. so i didn’t think she was having any egg laying problems, but just wanted to check.

I have Indian runners, and while they lay often, none of them is a daily producer.

When one of my girls actually was eggbound, she was lethargic and I could feel the egg inside her (which you don't want to break). Thanks to folks on BYC, I gave her extra calcium and let her take warm baths in the bath tub until she was able to pass the egg. So even if she eggbound, which she likely is not, it isn't a death sentence.

Peep averages an egg a day. Some days she doesn’t have any though. And a couple times she has had a 2 egg morning.
