Hello all! I am new to raising chickens and we are about to have our 2nd chick hatch. It was due to hatch between yesterday and today. This morning I noticed it has a "dent crack" but it looks like dried blood in the cracks. I thought I could still detect a bit of movement. I'm attaching a pic of the egg. My first hatch did not look like this. is it okay or has it been hurt? Can anyone tell me anything? Anyone?

it is probably just taking longer and honestly its probably from his beak. is he moving or chirping?

I don't remember my hatches being that bloody, here's hoping the little booger pulls through.

Are you incubating eggs or sitting under hen? Also, that dark green on the egg, is that chicken poop? It just reminds me of the very distinct green of rotten egg :sick

the eggs are under a brooder hen. there are a couple spots of moms poop on the egg, but the color must look off on the computer because it's not green.

Looks like she missed the air sac and hit a blood vessel. Sometimes they hatch out fine, sometimes they get stuck. How long since pip? How long since the crack developed. There are good articles under assisted hatch that can walk you through opening the air cell, checking the membranes, etc. I've had to do that a few times on malpositioned chicks. Sometimes they make it, sometimes not. Keep us posted! I had 3 of 3 duck eggs pip at the wrong end. Two hatched out unassisted and 1 needed a little help (at least that was my interpretation). All 3 are happy and healthy yearlings :) Good luck!
