Hello.

One of my hens has been sick for about 4 days. Not knowing what it was, I have done the following:
1. Fed her vitamins
2. Treated the whole flock for coccidiosis
3. Given her vetrx
4. Put DE in the coop
5. Electrolytes in the water with the corid
6. Hand fed her water twice a day
7. Scrambled eggs with vitamins and molasses

Symptoms:
Lethargic
Sits with her head ticked in
Left eye is closed. Has a black speck on the bottom lid
Poop was watery. I have not seen her poop lately. But I have been at work.
Kind of eats. But only makes half hearted attempts.
Tonight our main rooster sat over her on the roost in the coop and started pecking her on the left side of her head.

Can anyone help me??

Thank you!

Hello! I will do my best to help. I am not sure exactly if she has a disease, but in any case I would isolate her, especially from the rooster! Roos can be super mean to sick hens, and I think she should be given as much of a chance as possible. Try giving her wet food, like oatmeal or pudding. If there is an avian or exotic animal vet around your town you should give it a try. Best of luck, and I hope I could help.

Hello. Sorry about your hen. It’s really hard to know what’s going on, but she clearly does not feel well. Can you examine her? Check if her breast muscle is wasting. Check if her abdomen is bloated. Check if her crop is emptying properly overnight. Check her for lice and mites. Smell her breath. Check that her vent is clean and clear. Check her all over for hidden wounds.
Can you also give us more information?
• Age
• Laying status
• Number of birds in flock
• Place in pecking order
• Feed type
• Coop & run size and details
• Access to any toxins?
With more information, I hope we can help you.
