I have a 5 month old black copper marans cockerel that has yet to crow and shows zero interest in the lady's. Is this normal? Are they just a slow maturing breed? Thanks!

Is there another cockerel or cock in your flock? He may just be slower maturing.
There is a younger polish who is about 2 months old who hasn't crowed yet either in the same coop. My silkie roo in the other coop crows constantly and the little month old silkie mix cockerels in the grow out coop do too.

My maran hasn't crowed yet, but tries to mount most of the larger pullets. And my bantam roo has shown no signs of being interested in the ladies. He's pretty chill, and actually spends most of them time by himself when we let them free range.

My bcm cockerel seems scared of the larger girls. Several fought him for dominance when I introduced him as a 3 month old. They don't give him much grief now but I have to wonder if that is the reason he does not crow or try to mount them.
How old is your bcm?

My maran pullet squares up with him if he tries to mount her. Most of the other ones squawk if he tries anything, but it doesn't stop him from trying. All of mine were raised together from week 1ish. My bantam roo just wants to eat lol.

I've had cockerels act like cockerels very young, and some that don't figure it out til much later. There is a wide range of normal. Some were born to be the alpha, some were not.
I had a huge brahma that was over a year old before he figured it out. He was dubbed "Doofus" and for the longest time he was just happy to hang with the hens and be invisible.

Thanks everyone! I was getting worried about him. He is stunning and I would like babies from him some day.
I gave his brother to my sister, and he immediately took over her flock and started roostering them. Go figure Lol
