I am afraid I have made a mistake. I have a Jersey Giant rooster (not matured yet) and have added him to my mixed flock. I didn't even think about the size difference when he is fully matured. Someone told me that there is a danger of him breaking the girls' legs when he mounts them. Has anyone dealt with this before? Thanks in advance for any advice.
Breeds I have:
5 Leghorns (just started laying last week. YAY!)
2 Dominiques
2 Brahmas
1 Easter Egger
1 Silver Laced Wyandotte

Well, everybody is still a little too young to worry yet. The leghorns are the oldest and they about 5 months old. The others are about 3 months old - including Gus the Jersey Giant. I will just be sad if anyone gets hurt or has to leave.

All of those but the Leghorns are nice sturdy hens. They'll be fine. I think even the Leghorns will be okay once they get the mating ritual down well. The hen squats down so much most of the weight is on her body, not her legs. Even bearing weight on her legs, a body can take a lot of weight before a bone breaks.

I have noticed lately that they (the Leghorns) squat when I go to pet them. So I am hoping that is indicative of the posture they will take when Gus gets friendly. Thanks for the encouragement.
