Is "Safety" inviting crows? ~~pics~~

They really were brazen in our yard- what crow in its right mind walks up to a human? Big suckers, too!

I honestly would have loved it had I not had chickens, but I wondered:

A) Is it diseased and thus approaching me because it's not right?
B) What the heck does this thing want from me?
C) Is it going to infect my girls with some avian illness?

So, thwarting the part of my brain that said, "Tame it and name it Nevermore!!" I shooed it. There used to be at least 6 or 7 in the trees in our tight little urban neighborhood here in August, but they seem to have moved on.

I still don't know what to think.

edited for typos, 'cuz that's how I roll...

Did you know crows have the ability to talk like a parrot does? I saved baby animals and worked at a pet store and although I was never lucky enough to get one I know people who did. They can actually be very nice birds. I am SO thankful they have some around again because it keeps our pigeons safe.

What do crows like to eat so I can keep them around??

Crows and ravens really don't mind humans. They can become quite aclimated and even eat out of peoples hands. Some are even bold enough to snatch a sandwich out of someone's hand. I think you are seeing normal crow behaviour.
