Hi all,

I did a search but the thread I found was a year old so I’ll post here..

I have 4 silkies one roo. They are young only about 4 months old so I guess the boys a cockerel. I’m trying to decide if he was being aggressive with me....

So my silkie cockerel tried this with me yesterday. And now I feel a little bad because I got so pissed haha and ran after him and “pecked” him in the head ( tapped him on the head w my finger kinda hard). Lol oops! Well this is my first time with roosters. We have a bantam who is pretty scared of us it seems- when I pick him up he acts like he’s absolutely dying lol but he’s our top chicken so the silkie isn’t aggressive to any of the flock...

So I was crouched putting the water down and I felt something by my leg doing something and I turn around and it’s him. He always does that little two step behavior when I’m by him or if I crouched down is that a mating behavior or aggressive or just rooster behavior?

The fact that my back was to him was making me think it was aggressive but idk what he actually did because I had tall boots on and was turned around.

So what do you guys think? I didn’t raise Rudy from a chick, but he is the most frisky he’s always trying to jump on the the bantams....If it was mating I kinda feel bad because I scared the poop out of him for sure

Yep I have a little punk silkie cockerel. Does the 2-step dance, has spurred my in the big toe. I have finally gotten through to him with a 2 foot rope old dog toy. I got tired of doing the soccer lob foot push kick with him. He really doesn't like getting smacked by that rope because that one he never sees coming when he violates my space. It is probably just a hormonal thing. Thankfully I have the space to put them away until they are Roosters and then can be reevaluated for behavior at a later date. Neither of them have made the cut for becoming breeders. Regrdless, he now resides in a bachelor pad with one other cockerel and they love getting all rough and tumble with each other on occasion. Not my concern though they get feed and water and occasionally we sit and talk to them. After completing the bachelor digs last week, they still aren't exploring their 50x75' pen I guess I'll get in there and mow today.

Haha no way... so he’s attacking?!!!! In the other thread the people thought he was trying to mate so I got confused.. Oh I so do not play that. I’m going to get me a nice little pecking stick and he’s getting bopped. Is that weird two step aggressive?
I’m a little bummed though because the silkies I got are show quality and I specifically got him because he’s show quality and I wanted to breed but if he’s a jerk I may not be able to..

Love pecks?
Not a chance in my opinion. I have had to many hormonal "tweenies" to tolerate any guff from a cockerel. I had one that made it to roosterhood, but he WAS a Sumatra who decided to spur me between the eyes in breeding season. He was promptly culled at sunset that same day. Regardless, they do calm down once they get used to their rooster hormones at around the 1 year mark.
