Is the Cost Worth it to DIY Chicken Food

I would like to make my own chicken feed, but after looking up costs of the grains and such, a total for the stuff was Atleast $50. Is this really worth it?

Were do you find your stuff? The place I was looking at jus to had higher prices

It's a locally owned small feed and pet store. My husband said after my post is it $15/25 pounds purina layena feed.

I used to mix my own but due to chickens leaving certain things to eat just what they favored I went back to layer pellets. I mixed 1 part pigeon conditioner, 1 part animax, 1 part layer pellets, half parts cracked corn and black oil sunflower seeds and in summer omitted the corn and used 1 part sunflower seeds. Due to the number of birds I have it wasent efficient to mix my own and they picked out what they wanted which led to moldy food in the pen. Now all layer they like it and it's clean.
