Is there a 'rule of thumb' for how long a 'dose' fertilizes eggs?

Trying to keep it family friendly, once a roo mates a hen, how many eggs will that fertilize? For example, a week's worth? Does it vary with bird?(I'm guessing yes) I'm asking about Polish, Silkies and Sultans in general if one is dramatically different, but a rule of thumb would be nice...Thank you in advance...

Well, needless to say it would depend to some degree upon the sperm level of the rooster involved. Assuming a highly fertile rooster, hens can maintain good fertility for up to 2 weeks, some fertility for up to 3 weeks and occasional fertility for longer than that. This leads to the recommendation to wait at least 2 weeks after changing roosters if you want a greater chance that any chicks hatched are sired by the new rooster. Personally I think that 3 weeks is a safer time period.
