Is there a way to tell a black silkie from a black lav split?

I did get three pure lavs from the hatch and 6 blacks. I *think* the pen was a mix of lavs and splits. I thought I read somewhere that the splits will have some white on the hackles. Is that wrong?

If you mate them to a lavender and get any lavender chicks they are split. Only way I know to tell.

Only way to tell a split from a bird pure for not-lavender is breeding records. Depending on the parents' genes, you may or may not be able to determine that they are split. As was stated, if mated to a lavender, if any offspring are lavender, it is a split.

In Sigrid Van Dort's new Silkie Colours book she states that there is a subtle difference between the two. She mentions that on the splits the eye color is very slightly lighter and that the feathers will be very slightly lighter black.
