Is there such a thing as a completely indoor duck?

I purchased two ducklings at the end of March and was amazed at how fast they grew. I'm very new to this, but I planned on building them a large pen and house in my backyard (with pool, of course) but I have noticed that they don't like being outside without me right there with them. They love their pool time, but as soon as I walk away they are at the door, wanting to be let in. Is it possible for me to have them as indoor pets? They are currently lving in a large kennel-like tub inside since I was told they cannot live outside until full feathered and adults. I want to make sure they are healthy and happy, and I don't know what keeping them indoors would do. They go outside daily right now and splash in their pool and eat grass and bugs. Is that enough? What would be the best for these guys?

I keep my pekin duckling as a "house duck", diapers and all! She likes going outside during the day, but only if I'm there too :D

Not in my house, at least.

Ducks are poopy and wet and I don't want to do all that cleaning. They also live many years and that is a very long time to be cleaning up after them.

Ducks are happy outdoors in as close to their natural habitat as you can manage. They like to graze, eat bugs, swim, and dabble in the mud. The sunshine and exercise are good for their health, as is whatever natural food they can find.

X2 with Oregon. Ducks are happiest in an outside environment.

Also want to add, my goslings and more attached ducklings will cry when I leave them, especially when adjusting to a new pen or yard area. But if I ignore them, after a few days they get comfortable and then as thrilled as they are to see me when I show up, then rarely cry anymore when I leave.
