Is there such a thing as a love peck?

My 12 week old pullets are beautiful as well as sweet. They all come running to me when I come out to be with them. They eat snacks from my hands. Take naps on my lap. We are head over heels for each other. I have two pecking questions. #1 What is it about denim that drives them nuts? They peck at my pants every time I wear them, and will even try to grab and twist them off!?!? Weird..it's definitely not to hurt me, it's the jeans, and no there is no sparkles or shiny bits. #2 When I am sitting in the grass with them and they are all calmly milling around someone will always give me one soft peck to my lower back and then move on. Doesn't hurt, it's not a sharp peck. Again, I don't have patterns or buttons or anything they could be going after. I think I'm going to pretend they are love pecks of respect as opposed to disgust in my apperal choices.

My chicks love to peck at anything they think are mites or treats. They like to peck at moles or scabs or pieces of dust, but it is not aggressive, it is actually trying to help keep you clean of parasites.
My chickens love the buttons on my clothes and sometimes just peck at my clothes for no reason.

Chickens explore things with their beaks, which is probably why they peck at your back. I do know that my chickens gently peck one another to get pieces of dust off, and they mean it in a friendly way. Chickens have incredible eyesight, they can see things very well.

I hope this helps. Best of luck!
