First pic shows a definite cockerel and on the right, two pullets. Second pic shows a cockerel in the center. Third pic looks like a couple of pullets, but when you are sexing BRs, you need a pic in natural light with no glare so we can see the overall color of the chick.

Males are overall lighter because the white bars are wider. Pullets are overall darker because the white bars are more narrow.

This link is good for Barred Rocks, Cuckoo Marans and Dominiques and has very good photos.

That sure looks like my little roo, Hot Mess Henri (was supposed to be Hot Mess Henrietta)!

Girl BRs have a more defined white spot on their head, black wash down their legs, feather in more quickly, and have much more black on them. Roos have more splotches on their head, are generally a little lighter in color, with more white when they feather in, and their legs have little to no black on the fronts.

Here are two of my BR pullets surrounding my EE.

By no means am I an expert, but I've done a TON of research before concluding that Hot Mess is in fact a cockerel.

Edited to put in full picture instead of thumbnail

the top pic middle bird looks like a roo to me. It looks like white with black stripes instead of the black with white stripes for a hen.

You said you knew the last two were roosters and you thought the first one was a pullet, but I think you have it all backwards in your mind. The first one is male and the last two are female. I've raised BRs for five years now and they are pretty easy to sex most of the time.

You cannot go only on head spot or only on leg color. You must take head spot, leg color plus down color together as a whole to sex BRs. And when you have ones from show type stock, those rules are less accurate than with hatchery stock.

thanks, is what i wanted to hear seeing how i have 2 other roo's in the same flock, but i enjoy the help.
