My little boy would like to know what his 7 week old duckling will most likely look like when she molts into her adult feathers. These are our first ducklings so we are having fun looking at all of their changes. We think she is a female based on her voice, but if someone thinks otherwise based on his coloring please let us know. She is the light colored one with the dark beak in the pictures. The darker one is her mother. Thanks in advance! (Sorry for the poor pictures; she kept moving and it was getting dark when we were taking the pictures.)

Males will do a raspy smokers voice, if it quacks it's a girl. Boys just don't quack. I have 3 females and 2 males, didn't know until they started quacking and rasping but once they do you know. It's very distinct cartoon character quack vs the raspy. You could (I would not let your child if the duck is not used to being lifted) pick it up to make it uncomfortable and it will either rasp and quiet down or quack throwing a tantrum. Though at 7wks they get a voice it gets more pronounced in a week or two. If you can separate him/her you could also tell. Video would give us a better guess because not all ducks are sexed by color. Pekin (which 4 out of 5 of mine are) look the same the voice is key and males will fill out a little bit more (for pekin a lot more than the girls). I hope this helped a bit.

Thank you :) yes that helps

Glad I could help you sort it out. If any more questions come up just ask or post whatever you need this forum and the people here are all try to help the best they can when they can. The first quacks and rasps are super cute, like a young rooster trying it's first crow out. Precious sounds.

Thanks so much for the encouragement! Everyone has been very nice here. I posted videos of all 3 ducklings voices on my original post. Thanks again!
