Ok, so this is my first year to have frizzles. We got 2, a red & a black. They are both 8 weeks old, but feathering much differently. The black, "Curly-Shirley", went up in feathers as fast as the regular chicks, but "Miss Frizzle", has been slow to the draw in comparison. I read several places that frizzles can be slow to feather in general, & there are no combs developing on either of them. I'm wondering if the red may be a "Frazzle"...Its feathers are very curly & very soft, & appear to be a bit patchy. It doesn't seem to have the bad health problems that I've read are usually associated w/ them though...Also, what gender do you think? The kids named them, hoping for girls.

Here's some pics. I'd appreciate your thoughts on them, but please keep in mind that I already know that they aren't SQ, so any "terrible/low-grade quality" comments I'd appreciate you keeping to yourself, as my kids are reading this too & love their birds dearly. Thanks for understanding!

I'm not very knowledgeable in regards to the frizzle/frazzle -- but it looks like you have pullets there.

I couldn't get the red's pic to load but the black is a girl. I've had a few frizzles and I have several Sizzle chicks now. I just love the look.

You don't want to breed a Frizzle to a Frizzle because it causes the feathers to become too brittle and will break off. That is what i've been told anyway. I was told to mix with a Silkie which makes Sizzles so don't hold what I say as being right. I'm subscribing to this thread so I can see what others say about it. I pick a breed and learn as much as I can about it. Now, it's Sizzles. lol Out of the 13 Sizzles I have 2 are Frizzled. A black one and a white one. There are about 5 that are looking to turn out as Sizzles and the rest, well we will see. Some of them look like they have bunny tails, or a cotton ball glued on their back sides.

I think they are both normal frizzles. I had a frazzle and she was half naked, plus her feathers were like pins - the feather part would break and she'd be left with the shaft. Never had health problems though... Your lttle red girl seems to simply be feathering in slower than the black one

I have a red frizzle that I just bought with two white ones a week or so ago. They are supposed to be around 2 months or so...I have to say tho My red one looks almost the same as yours. I am still worried about her since her feathers are not all the way in. The two white ones are feathered out.

Thanks for all the help, y'all! I was thinking they were 2 girls too. But was just wondering about the curly/frazzle thing. I won't worry about that any longer thanks to your sharing your thoughts & experience.
