Hi I was looking on craigs list for chickens coops in my area and I found this link on craigs list. The picture on the bottom is the coop i would get ( houses 4-6 chickens ) but it looks like they put the nesting box above what they call roosts . . . . is this good ? It doesnt say the price but I want to contact the person to see how much it is although if i bought it I would paint it, add linolium, and make it so i can lock up the chickens at night, With all these fixes what would you pay ?

I suspect it's going to be very pricey. (But I do think it's a very nice coop.) Looks like they do custom building. You could probabbly build on for yourself MUCH cheaper. If you're not handy perhaps you could find someone to help. A friend of mine built me a coop in exchange for watching his daughter in the morning until the school bus comes. I love the barter system!

Oh my ..... it don't look to professional Or just plain ole "don't know what they are doing" . Looks like they tried to copy pics of other people's pens but left out most important parts when building .
Be honest i would not give over $25-50 bucks for it .
If you can get it at this price you might could work on it LOL (might not though).... what's the bottom of this pen ? like where they walk around at ?
They brought in some hay/straw for a cover-up lol

It will be a fun project . how big should the coop be for 4-6 chickens ? ( in square feet and not including the run)

Wait a second. It looks to me like the one in the photo is on display in a parking lot and that may be why they have hay on the ground. Remember the posting is the SF bay area, and the coop is designed for the weather that they have. To me, the design seems fine for the area. I use wire floors on my coops and have had NO, I repeat NO issues with my birds health or feet and I have well over 100 chickens. The price will be high given the area they live, the Bay area chicks will go for well over $5-7 for the same chicks our feed stores sell for $3.00. I wish I could take my pullets up there, I could probably get over $25-30 each! I think it would be out of line to say it is worth only $25-50, the materials alone are worth more than that. If you are not handy, you could end up spending a lot of money on tools and materials that you don't need. I have seen people in my area trying to sell a simple 4ft tall A frame for $350, at most, it has $40 in materials, to me that is too much for what you get.

I would be interested to see SPECIFICALLY what people don't like about (that would be more helpful, and if people take into account the weather in SF.

There are quite a few 'issues' with the design intent of that coop.
I'll mention one point that hasn't already been picked up on; the perches are set at almost the same height as the window / ventilation which means a cold wind would chill the bird and would be at risk to health problems, there is no doubt with that perch arrangement that the bird will climb to the highest perch. This point is also worth remembering during DIY coop construction.

That coop is a no.

Mark.
