Many of you have had questions about our feed, please see if we can answer your questions with our Q&A section below, if your question isn't there, feel free to call and ask!

All natural high protein feed:
yellow peas
green peas
wild rice
barley
wheat
camelina meal pellets 17-18 % plant protein in the current mix (we can put together a higher/lower protein mix for your needs)

Commonly asked questions:

Q: What do you use to get your protein in your mix?
A: We use all plant based proteins, the most naturally absorbed proteins for your herbivore/omnivore animals. The Camelina pellets are our main plant 'protein' source, but each ingredient listed above has it's own Amino Acids (the building blocks of protein) and can be used by your animals to make a Complete protein for growing muscles and other tissues.

Q: Do you use Fish meal or milk proteins in your mix?
A: No, we do not use any products derived from an animal in our feed.

Q: Are any of the ingredients in your feed GMO's (Genetically Modified Organism)'s?
A: No, none of the ingredients in our feed are genetically modified.

Q: Are any of the ingredients in your feed Organic?
A: All of the ingredients are Organically grown, but they are not 'Certified' as the farms that grow them are so small it is not worth the cost of Certification.

Q: Are the ingredients locally grown?
A: The ingredients are all grown locally, you will be supporting local farmers not large corporations.

Q: How is your feed different from the feed I buy at the feed-store?
A: Our feed is made with whole grains/seeds that are milled to lightly break them open for better digestion by your animals.
A: Our feed is mixed, milled, and bagged weekly so your feed arrives fresh and in it's most nutritious state.
A: Our feed has even been made into home-made soups by some of our customers, we use only high quality ingredients.

Q: How is your feed packaged?
A: For small orders we package in 50lb sacks, sewn shut like you would see at a feed store.
A: For large ton orders we package in Super Sacks/1 Ton Totes.

I live in the Pac NW and saw that too. It looks like a good feed but I'd just mix it in with what I already feed. See this:

I really have come to like my organic soy and corn feed that I buy from the feed store, and mix it in as desired with all my favorite extras. I have found that my birds put on weight better with some soy.

Peas, by the way, are excellent-

You must be cognizant of the amino acid profile of your finished feed so that you don't end up with deficiencies. Unfortunately I am no expert in that.

That's the sticking point in Organic feeds. Most brag about having no animal by-products but chickens aren't vegetarians and it's difficult to give them what they need without using animal by-products.

Thank you, Galanie, for responding but I am afraid that is a real sticky point with me. I do not feed my show dogs animal-by-products (they are on a Super Premium organic kibble supplemented by my own wet organic food that I make) and will not use by-products with my birds- especially if I am going to eat their eggs and also feed my dogs their eggs. I mean no disrespect to your opinion!

My birds are free range, so they are eating bugs, and the like. The feed is to make up the difference- especially in winter when the bugs are not nearly as plentiful.

Again, thank you for taking the time to respond.

Sheila :)

No disrespect taken. As you seem to research these things then I know you are aware that protien isn't the only thing that meats or animal by-products provide. The link before my post explains at least one of those, and how it's difficult to get w/out these things.

And I mean no disrespect to you as well. You have decided you will not feed these things and we each make our own choices based on what we know and believe. The ingredients listed on the first post did not seem to be enough to provide complete nutrition. But I'm no expert and I do respect anyone's decision that is based on fact, which yours appears to be.

please post back with what you find regarding the "completeness" of the feed mentioned in the OP. I just bought a fifty pound bag of it.

Thanks

Actually, I think I may have bought a different feed then the one described in the OP. I bought Buxton Feed Layer Pellets - they also use camelina meal and all the other ingredients are similar. I wrote to them about concerns regarding my pullets getting enough methionine, and they quickly replied with the specification sheet on the Fertrells Nutri Balancer which they add at 60 pounds a ton to their layer pellets. I cannot comment on the feed yet as I haven't used it.
