One of my 1 month old chicks was on top of my broody hen trying to mate her last night. Is this a sign I have another Rooster?

I have 3 laying hens 1 1/2 years old. Never had any problems with their eggs, cook most of them over easy, nice yolks. For the past 4 months when I crack them over the skillet they come out very nice as always then all of a sudden the yolks break open. I was told my chickens needed more protein so I mix the starter medicated feed with their laying crumbles and they are getting better, don't have as many breaking. I let them free range daily. Is there something I am doing wrong? What else can I do for them, the starter medicated feed can be costly and they LOVE it. If I have to continue that route, I will. I have begun giving them meal worms occasionally for a treat. They eat them up!!!!

Thank you & I have learned alot from this forum & finally decided to subscribe to be able to ask questions when I cannot find the answers myself.

Not a sign that chick is a cockerel - chicks frequently perch on top of their mother. I don't think that I would be feeding medicated feed to your layers. The medication to a certain level can appear in the eggs.

I have seen them perch on top of their mother, however, this one clearly was not just perching! The baby chick had his beak on the back of mom's feathers and was making the motion as well. You know how dogs like to "hump", I've just never saw a baby (1 month old) chick do it.

I don't feed alot of the medicated. I mix a little with layer crumbles. Does anyone have any other suggestions for why my egg yolks are breaking?

Can anyone tell me what breed my chickens are? I have a couple different ones. I am not sure how to post pics of them on the thread. I'm knew to this stuff.
