Is this a splayed leg or something else

A picked up a handful of chicks a day ago. One is a tiny showgirl silkie. When I got home I noticed she was limping.

Her feet had what looked like dried feed (probably mixed with poop). I washed her feet clean. When I went to dry her I noticed her leg was stuck to her body. There was a hard yellowish clump. It took a bit of soaking to remove it. Eventually it separated with a little rubbing.

This is when I noticed the material was actually attached to her skin on both ends (body and leg). I cleaned her up as best I could. Dried her up and applied a lite veterycin, just in case.

What could this be if not debris?

I've read about splayed legs but never had a bird worth that problem. Should I wrap her legs or wait a day? She is 10 days old. I have had her for one day.

Video and I photo on the way.

Thank you

Pictures would really help ... From the videos, looks like her leg is "stuck" to her underside or one leg is shorter. Get someone to help you, while holding her on her back, take a picture of her underside. Take another picture, extendng her leg but tenderly as to not force it. Then take another picture extending both legs, do they look the same length?

Cleaning the poop & gunk off her feet is a plus but you mention a "yellowish lump" ... Wish we could see it ... Sounds like it may have been partial unabsorbed yolk.

It's not splayed leg IMO. If the leg in question is the same as the other side, it's very possible that being "stuck" to her body for however long (hatch until you notice it) she just needs to learn to use it & stretch it out; physical therapy in a sense.

Thanks. I think you're on point with the yolk. A little more soaking and one part of the adhesion is off.

Legs are equal length.
Joints look okay, mostly.
She's stading better now that she's evening out.

Let's see how she fares. I'm glad I took her. She seemed so fragile.

Is there any swelling of the joint?
I would get some B-Complex and give her 1/4 tablet daily.

Maybe a little. I'll start vitamins. Thank you so much for sharing poultrypedia. Great resource!

Poor thing just spent 10 day with a leg attached to her body and no one noticed. No wonder she sat so much. Interesting to see how she responds to having mobility, vitamins, easier access to feeding...

I keep saying she, wishful thinking. At least her name won't change if she's a roo. Bella Lugosi works for both 😂
