I massaged her in a warm bath, trimmed away the vent feathers which were soiled and clumpy. I have her in a crate, inside and it is warm in that room. I will keep her inside until she is completely dry.
I did not see an egg nor could I feel one in the vent area but I mineral oiled her to be on the safe side. She is not prolapsed. I did notice that she feels quite thin and her breast bone is prominent although she is heavy...she doesn't feel light. Her abdomen is still quite firm.
I fixed her a meal of scrambled egg, chicken, corn and her regular food. She gobbled it up and appears quite hungry.
I must say that I lost a hen a couple of weeks ago, overnight and without any signs of illness or discomfort. I had no idea why as she had not been ill or even looking ill. I did notice she was quite thin. Both of these hens are 3 years old.
Could this be something else other than egg bound? Any comments are most appreciated.
