We have a drake with prolapsed penis. Drake has had condition for 1 week. Is bird safe for human consumption or should we discard carcass?
I know this is possibly treatable. We are starting a breeding operation and have no interest in using this bird.

p.s I had posted in "Ducks", did not see there was a section for meat birds

I would eat it unless there is some kind of infection along with the condition.

It's actually recommended (Holderread) that you cull drakes with the condition in this manner rather than treating it if you are running a breeding program. For 1.) It's a high race of recurrence once it's happened before, and 2.)It could be due to a hereditary condition or weakness.

This will be my first time, figured it might take me a while so I was going to wait till the weekend.
Drake seams to be running around doing ducky things, not to happy because he is in solitary.

Thank-you for the replies
